Penn Hills woman to stand trial in Oakmont ring theft
A Penn Hills woman was ordered Monday to stand trial on charges of stealing a diamond ring last year from the finger of an elderly patient in an Oakmont nursing home.
Jami Batista Young, 32, will stand trial on charges of theft, simple assault, robbery and receiving stolen property that were filed after a 3-carat wedding ring, valued at about $25,000, was taken from an 87-year-old Alzheimer's patient at Westminster Place at Presbyterian SeniorCare, where Young was an aide.
A family member told police she saw the ring on the woman's finger when she visited May 18, but it was gone when the next day. An Allegheny County detective found the ring about two weeks later at a Golden Mile jewelry store.
