Trib Total Media official explains Progress' end
Trib Total Media will cease publication of the Penn Hills Progress after this edition.
"It saddens me to close the Penn Hills Progress, but consumers and advertisers have been telling us that they want different approaches to local news and advertising," said Ralph Martin, president and CEO of Trib Total Media.
"These communities, which at one point were much more insulated from the greater Pittsburgh area, are really part of the fabric of the larger community, and we recognize that their news needs often extend beyond their municipal borders. The Neighborhoods section that we publish Thursdays in the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review has really taken off and reflects that many readers in these communities see themselves as part of a greater whole."
Readers will continue to get updated news and community information through their local news Web site -- YourPennHills.com -- and in the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.
Advertisers will have entry into the Neighborhoods sections, and will have access to targeted, community-level advertising via the Pennysaver product offerings. Pennysaver products reach virtually every household in Allegheny County each week and beginning next week, will be produced in a bigger, classified format with more color.
The Pennysaver and the Gateway weeklies are part of the Trib Total Media portfolio, which includes seven daily newspapers, weekly newspapers, magazines and Web sites that provide news and information throughout Western Pennsylvania.

Very sorry to see this paper go. This is amazing that it operated all these years and now under the Trib ownership, it ends.
So how do I get reimbursed for the remainder of my Progress subscription???
yes, i would like to know how to get a refund also.
I find it sad that with a community this size, we have absolutely no say in keeping communication alive via The Progress. This is a good website, but many do not have access to the internet.
I want to know how to get a refund also. Soon.
Subscriptions to the Penn Hills Progress have been transferred to the Sunday Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. The Sunday edition includes news, entertainment, lifestyle, travel, sports and features. It is value packed with ads, sale fliers, manufacturer coupons and offers the area's only TV Magazine with complete 24-hour listings.
Additionally, Trib staff members are in the process of contacting subscribers with an offer to receive the Thursday and Sunday editions for the same price as the Penn Hills Progress subscription with no additional payment. Thursday’s edition includes a Neighborhood section and Ticket entertainment magazine with news and information about events, festivals, music, movies, dining out and more.
