Flea market, bake sale

Apostles Lutheran Church, 447 Hamil Road, Penn Hills, will hold a flea market and bake sale this Saturday.

The event will run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Children and war

Liz Shropshire, a resident of Los Angeles, will speak about her interactions with children traumatized by wars at 11 a.m. this Saturday at Penn Hills First Baptist Church, 7450 Chadwick St.

She has been to Kosovo, Uganda and other countries where children have psychosocial trauma from wars and are being healed through music.

Shropshire, a composer and music teacher, was moved by pictures of ethnic cleansing in Kosovo to help children affected by wars.

To do so, nine years ago, she contacted instrument man-ufacturers, held fundraising activities and emptied her savings account to amass 140 harmonicas, 130 penny whistles, 50 pairs of drumsticks, four electric keyboards, 60 beginning piano books, 500 pencils, a portable stereo and a portable tape recorder.

For more information, call the church at 412-371-5335.
