Church briefs for the week of May 8, 2008
First Baptist Church of Penn Hills, 7450 Chadwick St., will hold a celebration of the 25th wedding anniversary of the Rev. and Mrs. James Hunt at 5 p.m. on May 24.
The free celebration will be held in collaboration with Together Pittsburgh.
Special guests will include Adoration, Gospel Ensemble of Pittsburgh Reunion Choir and Sheila Harris Jackson of Plainfield, N.J.
Guest preacher will be Minister Joyce Arvie of Law Street Baptist Church, New Orleans. LaVerne Corbin will be guest soloist. The event is open to the public.
Hebron UP sale
Hebron United Presbyterian Church, 10460 Frankstown Road, will have a "New to You" sale on May 21 and 22.
Proceeds will benefit Hebron United Presbyterian Women programs and mission giving.
Hours are 7 to 9 p.m. on May 21 and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on May 22, which will be "bag day." A baked goods sale also will be held both days.
Grilled hot dogs, other home cooking and pop will be sold around 6 p.m. on May 21.
Donations of items for the sale can be brought to the church's Barclay Building from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. this Friday and next Monday and Tuesday.
Items being accepted are clothing, lamps, electronics, jewelry, books, housewares, linens, toys, games, crafts, sporting goods, tools, "bric-a-brac" and holiday decorations. Electrical items should be in good working order or have labels for any problems.
Donations of furniture cannot be accepted until Monday.
St. Gerard flea market
St. Gerard Majella Church, 121 Dawn Drive, will hold a flea market and craft sale from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. this Saturday.
A few tables still are available for rent at $15 per table.
Vendors can reserve tables by calling Rose Graziano at 412-795-0085 after 7 p.m.
