J. Vance Boughner
PPG Industries retiree
J. Vance Boughner, 93, a resident of Longwood at Oakmont, formerly of Penn Hills, died March 12, 2008.
Born May 9, 1914, in York, he was the son of the late Andrew Brown and Ethel Deems Boughner.
Retired after 36 years at PPG Industries, he had a lifelong passion for music that included playing, writing and conducting sacred and popular music. An accomplished trombonist, pianist and organist, he had served as choir director for a number of area churches and, until recently, played in a ballroom band.
Surviving are his daughter, Grace Campbell and her husband, Thomas; and two grandchildren.
Friends were received at Charles W. Trenz Funeral Home Inc., Penn Hills.

Faith Bronzo
Native of Italy
Faith M. Bronzo, 93, of Penn Hills, formerly of Florida and Monroeville, died March 9, 2008.
Born in S. Daniele-Fruili, Italy, she was the oldest child of Pietro and Ida Molinaro Moroso.
A graduate of Columbia Hospital School of Nursing, she worked as a public health nurse and was an avid reader and world traveler.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Anthony Bronzo; and brother, Peter Moroso.
Surviving are her son, Thomas Bronzo of Arcata, Calif.; sisters, Velma Liveratti, Dahlia Blotzer and Violet Glesner; and two grandchildren.
Private arrangements were handled by Alfieri Funeral Home Inc., Wilmerding.
Pasquale Carone
Married 63 years
Pasquale "Pat" Carone, 93, of Penn Hills, died March 11, 2008.
Surviving are his wife of 63 years, Antonette Carone; son, Frank Carone and his wife, Carol; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Friends were received at Charles W. Trenz Funeral Home Inc., Penn Hills. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated in St. Bartholomew Church.

Dr. Soo San Choi
South Korea native
Dr. Soo San Choi, 83, of Penn Hills, died March 11, 2008, in Mercy Hospital, Pittsburgh.
Born in South Korea, he was the son of Myung Ho and Jung Hi Choi.
He held a doctorate degree in nuclear chemistry from Nottingham University in England, started PhilCo Ford for Ford Motor Co. in 1961 and later became executive chemist (radiology) for U.S. Steel in Pittsburgh.
In 1970, he began Choi Enterprises, an international distributor of specialty steel. He also was general contractor for many structures in several states, co-founded Minority Workforce Cooperative, was president of National Korean Association of Western Pennsylvania and served on the board of MBELDEF in Washington, D.C.
Surviving are his wife, Sun Cho Choi; children, Hugh, Mark and Nan Choi, Yong Chol and Yung Tae Song; siblings, Soo Ung, Soo Za and Boo Za Choi; and three grandchildren.
Visitation was at William F. Gross Funeral Home Ltd. A service was held at Pittsburgh Korean Assembly of God, Monroeville. Interment was at Plum Creek Cemetery, Plum.
Catherine Gimpel
Latrobe native
Catherine T. Gimpel, 91, of Penn Hills, died March 10, 2008, in Sterling House, Penn Hills.
Born in Latrobe, she was the daughter of Michael and Janet Bortz Tomashoski.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Gimpel.
Surviving are her children, Gloria DeAngelo and Walter Gimpel Jr.; and three grandchildren.
Friends were received at William F. Gross Funeral Home. Interment was at William Penn Memorial Park, Monroeville.
Fred Harchelroad
Married 62 years
Fred P. Harchelroad, 84, of Penn Hills, died March 13, 2008.
He was founder and president of Harchelroad Trucking Co.
Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Cecilia Harchelroad; children, Jean Harchelroad and Fred Harchelroad Jr. and his wife, Susan; brothers, Emmert and Jack Harchelroad; uncle, Jack Harchelroad; and three grandchildren.
Friends were received at Soxman Funeral Homes Ltd., Penn Hills.
Elizabeth Muenchow
Married 54 years
Elizabeth A. "Betty Muenchow, 76, of Penn Hills, died March 13, 2008.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Shannon Heights Red Hat Society and Rosedale Community Club.
Her daughter-in-law, Denise Muenchow, preceded her in death.
Surviving are her husband of 54 years, Donald Muenchow; children, Cynthia Zuch and her husband, Don, and Jeffery Muenchow; sister, Bertha Jack; and five grandchildren.
Family and friends were received at Burket-Truby Funeral Home Cremation & Alternative Services Inc., Oakmont.

Florence Spurrier
Retired union musician
Florence Spurrier, 89, of Penn Hills, died March 15, 2008, at UPMC St. Margaret.
Born March 30, 1918, in Bloomfield, she was the daughter of James and Flora Pech Spurrier.
A retired self-employed musician who was involved with Pittsburgh Musicians Union, she also worked at Pittsburgh Zoo as an office manager. She was a member of St. Bartholomew Church in Penn Hills and its Christian Mothers and RCAC in Oakmont. She also enjoyed art.
Surviving are her cousins, Bessie Dundr and Norma Rice; and friends, Leonard and Denise Capobianco and family.
Friends and family were received at Burket-Truby Funeral Home Cremation and Alternative Services Inc. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated in St. Bartholomew Church with the Rev. Martin Barkin officiating. Interment was at Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Penn Hills.
