Students place third; honor roll set

Four students from Linton Middle School took third place in the annual CalcuSolve Competition at Allegheny Intermediate Unit in Homestead.

Eighth-graders Chris Man-nella, Erica Stevens, Calvin Lutz and Mark Strine represented the Penn Hills School District in the category for seventh and eighth grades.

Strine turned in the best performance of the team, earning the most points of any Linton student.

Students were coached by Todd Holler, an eighth-grade math teacher. The students take Kim Belts' geometry class.

CalcuSolve is a math program that engages students in problem-solving questions that require mathematical calculations.

Students answered individual and group problems.

The annual competition involves schools throughout the county.

Students compete in the categories for third and fourth grades, seventh and eighth grades, ninth and 10th grades and 11th and 12th grades.

Honor roll

Honor/high honor roll results for the first grading period at Linton Middle School were announced last week, with 815 students making the roll.

Total number of students at the school is 1,870, resulting in about 44 percent of the student population earning this honor.

In addition to certificates, the students named to the honor/high honor roll were recognized at assemblies on Nov. 22 and Nov. 23.
