YOUNG VOICES: Students pick Olympic sports

Students in Jennifer Clemence's fourth-grade class at Dible Elementary School were asked the following question:

"If you were an athlete in the Olympics, what sport would you compete in?"

Here are their responses:

  • Amanda Ifill: "I would be a cheerleader or a gymnast. I know cheerleaders aren't in the Olympics, but I think they should have a cheerleading competition because many girls are good at it. Also, I would like to be a gymnast because I am very strong and I like to perform cool tricks in front of crowds."

  • Deone Douglas: "I would be a track star because I can run a 50-yard dash in four minutes."

  • Nathan Hurrell: "I would be a swimmer because I love to swim. I think it would be great to bring home the gold."

  • Matthew Kegges: "I would be a swimmer because I am a good swimmer and a good diver."

  • Miesha Blackwell: "I would be a track star because I love to run and love to have a lot of people cheering for me. Also, I would want to be a swimmer because I love the water and I love to swim."

  • Juan Williams: "I would be a gymnast because it takes a lot of flexibility."

  • Ashlee Tagg: "I would be a swimmer because I think I am a very fast swimmer. I also think swimming is very fun."

  • Julia Clark: "I would like to be a swimmer because I can swim very well. Also, I would like to show off some of my tricks that I can do in the pool. I would also like to be a gymnast because I like to do flips and tricks."

  • Maddie Wharton: "I would be a swimmer because you get to swim in the water. You can nose-dive or can do flips, too."

  • Tyrell Simmons: "I would be a track star because I love to run and jump at the same time. I love to have a challenge every now and then. I would love to run against people from the other side of the world."

  • Ryan Getz: "I would be a pole vaulter because I like being high and I like jumping. Also, I like competition."

  • Hope Wimer: "I would be a trampoline jumper because I have a trampoline in my backyard and I love to jump on it. Also, I can do lots of tricks on it, like flips and handstands."

  • Maia Davis: "I would be a horse rider. That way I could actually race horses, instead of just riding them."

  • Amanda Christian: "I would be an ice skater because I tried it once and I loved it."

  • Cydni Davis: "I would be in gymnastics because I am flexible."

  • Tiarra McGinnis: "I would like to be a gymnast because I can do a backbend and a split."

  • Brandon Quentin: "I would be a fast track star because I love to run and running could help you lose weight."

  • Erin Slagle: "I would be a pole vaulter because it would be fun to fly into the air and soar."

  • Kashona Smith: "I would be a gymnast and a figure skater because I am a little flexible and bendable."

  • Zekima Johnson: "I would like to be a model."

  • Dylan Nolan: "I would be a professional bowler because I throw a mean curveball."
