Best thing that ever happened. Keep it closed. This caused a lot
less traffic in the near by locate streets. At night it keep
the rif-raf out of the local area. We should think about closing
Frankstown RD. and laketon Rd. also. This would really stop the
rif-raf and drug trade in the area.
People are so quick to blame PennDOT for everything. It's not so simple as clearing away the debris and opening it back up to traffic. Following the slide, the slope is no longer in a stable state of equilibrium. The shear face is steaper, and there is no vegitation to help hold the slope against erosion and furthur slides.
The person we should blame here is the property owner, Mr. Donald Brown. Not only is he responsible for the slide with his illigal dumping, but he has continued to impede PennDOT's progress. Clearing the debris is only the first step, which was delayed due to legal issues and the owner not permitting PennDOT onto the property to clean the mess. Next, the hillside needs to be stabilized. Once again another step which requires access to the owners property. PennDOT has found a way to work around the property issues thanks to Mr. Brown's neighbors who have graciously allowed PennDOT onto their propety to help out. But it make the work more difficult and complicated.
I live in Verona, and Coal Hollow is my main route to work. Don't get me wrong, I am definitely pissed off about the traffic problems this has caused. I'm just am not going to blame PennDOT for somebody elses mistake. I can only fault PennDOT in one aspect of this case. And that is PennDOT should have begun clearing the road sooner, instead of worrying about the legal issue of who is to pay for it. But on the other hand, remember those are your tax dollars. PennDOT was only trying to save us money, instead of paying for Donald Brown's mistake.
One of the two drivers who had accidents caused by the landslide should sue Mr. Donald Brown. Because a $1000 fine for dumping is only a slap on the wrist for all the problems he has caused our community.
